Islamabad, Feb 26 2025: Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) of Police Operations in Lahore took stern action by dismissing 115 police officers for refusing to perform duties during the Champions Trophy.
As per media reports, several officers either failed to report, refused their duties, or delayed attendance during the matches at Gaddafi Stadium.
Among those were officers such as Atiq, Zain, Ali, Sheeraz, Shan, Zubair, and Adi, who were part of the group that neglected their assigned duties during the event.
This unprecedented action underscores the commitment of police to maintaining order and discipline, especially during major international sporting events.
Ahead of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 matches, the Punjab Police had implemented comprehensive security measures.
As per official announcement, a total of 12,564 officers and personnel were deployed across Lahore and Rawalpindi to ensure the safety and security of the event.
Of these, 7,618 officers were assigned to Lahore, 4,535 to Rawalpindi, and 411 Special Branch members were deployed to assist in both cities.
The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore is scheduled to host a high-octane clash between England and Afghanistan today starting from 2.pm.
The venue will also host the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh on February 28, while it previously hosted the game between England and Australia.
