Islamabad, Nov 9: 137,000 Laptops Distributed to Empower Youth in Sindh and Balochistan for Digital Advancement. Since 2013, over 137,500 laptops have been provided to young people in Sindh and Balochistan through the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme (PMYLS), enhancing skills development, education, digital access, and youth empowerment in these areas.
According to official sources, 107,034 laptops have been distributed in Sindh, while Balochistan received 30,513 laptops since the program began. For the year 2023-24, it was reported that 16,939 laptops were awarded to university students throughout Sindh based on merit under the scheme.
He also detailed the distribution in Sindh, noting that Tharparkar (Mithi) received 94 laptops, Umerkot got 242, and Kashmore was allocated 97. The share of Balochistan in the Prime Minister Laptop Scheme was significantly raised following directives from the Prime Minister, increasing from 6% to 14% for 2022-2023, and further to 18% in the next phase.
In the 2023-24 period alone, a total of 12,663 laptops were distributed in various districts of Balochistan, with 1,486 distributed in Kech, 354 in Nushki, and 55 in Chagai. Initiated in 2013 by Nawaz Sharif, the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme (PMYLS) aims to focus on youth development and empowerment via education, employment, engagement, and environment, implemented under these essential pillars.
