Punjab has expanded its e-challan system under the Safe City project to cover 19 cities across the province.
The initiative, which started in 2018 in Lahore, is now operating under the name “Smart Safe City” in several major cities including Sargodha, Jhang, Muzaffargarh, Multan, Sialkot, Okara, Mianwali, Attock, Rahim Yar Khan, Gujrat, Jhelum, Murree, Hasan Abdal, Sheikhupura, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal and Kasur.
According to the DIG Traffic, the system uses cameras to detect traffic violations automatically and issue fines. Authorities say the project will eventually be expanded to all districts of Punjab.

Data from the Safe City Authority shows that so far, over 17.8 million citizens have received e-challans, generating more than PKR 3.58 billion in revenue. Traffic officials are urging drivers to follow traffic rules, warning that violations will result in hefty fines.
