The upcoming Asia Cup 2025 is expected to be shifted from India to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to political tensions between India and Pakistan.
Initially set to be hosted by India, the tournament may now take place in the UAE in September, with Sri Lanka also being considered as an alternative venue.
The final decision will be made by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) while the authority is expected to hold discussions before confirming the location.
India retains the hosting rights of the marquee event, but given the strained relations with Pakistan, a neutral venue is seen as a more viable option.
The tournament will be played in the T20 format, featuring 19 matches over two weeks. Eight teams, including arch-rivals India and Pakistan, will compete for the title.
The UAE has previously hosted the Asia Cup, including the 2022 edition, which was also moved from its original host due to similar circumstances.
If confirmed, the decision would mark another instance of shifting a major cricket tournament to ensure smooth participation of all teams.
It is worth noting that India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since 2013, when the Misbah-led Pakistan team visited India for a white-ball series.
The neighboring countries continue to face each other in ICC and ACC events, with their latest clash taking place in the ongoing Champions Trophy in Dubai.
