ISLAMABAD – July 4, 2025: As many as 350 Afghan students have arrived in Pakistan to pursue higher education at top-tier Pakistani universities across various disciplines under the HEC Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships for Afghan Students, initiated under the Prime Minister’s Directives.
According to a press release issued on Friday, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) hosted a reception at its Regional Centre in Peshawar to welcome the new students.
This development marks a significant step forward in academic cooperation and people-to-people relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Before commencing their degree programs in the fall semester, the students will undergo a specially designed preparatory course to help them adjust to the academic environment in Pakistan.

In addition to the current intake, 50 PhD and 100 Master’s level students are also scheduled to join the programme in September 2025 to pursue their studies in Pakistan.
The Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships Programme is a major initiative launched by the Government of Pakistan, under which a total of 4,500 scholarships are being awarded to Afghan students for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate studies.
On their arrival, the students were received by Nasir Shah, In-charge of the HEC Regional Centre Peshawar, and Jehanzeb Khan, Project Director of the Allama Iqbal Scholarships Programme. Representatives from National University of Technology (NUTECH), Islamabad, and National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (NUCES-FAST), Faisalabad, were also present on the occasion.
The Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships Programme reflects the mutual commitment of Pakistan and Afghanistan to enhance educational collaboration in the spirit of Islamic brotherhood and regional cooperation.
