Islamabad, 29 May 2025: A light earthquake was recorded on Thursday afternoon in the southern region of Balochistan, with tremors felt near Zhob and its surrounding areas.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed that the quake occurred on 29 May 2025 at 3:37 PM PST, with its epicentre located approximately 60 kilometres southeast of Zhob.

The PMD reported that the earthquake registered a magnitude of 4.4 on the Richter scale and originated at a depth of 40 kilometres beneath the Earth’s surface. Its geographical coordinates were noted as latitude 30.76° North and longitude 69.71° East.

According to PMD Islamabad, while the seismic activity was clearly detected, no loss of life or property has been reported so far.

The shallow depth and moderate intensity of the tremor meant that it was felt locally but did not cause significant disruption.

Authorities have assured the public that monitoring continues, and there is no immediate threat of aftershocks. Residents in the region were urged to remain calm and follow standard safety measures in the event of future seismic activity.
