Islamabad, Aug 6, 2025: A moderate earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck Swat and surrounding regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday, sparking panic among locals but causing no reported damage or injuries.
According to the National Seismological Centre, the quake originated at a depth of 61 kilometers, with its epicenter traced to the Hindu Kush mountain range, a known seismic zone in the region.
Residents in Mingora, Matta, Barikot, and other adjoining towns reported feeling strong tremors, prompting many to rush out of homes and workplaces in fear. However, local authorities have confirmed that no casualties or structural damage were recorded.
Emergency services remain on high alert, but officials assured the public that the situation is under control and no aftershocks have been detected so far.
