Islamabad, 12 May, 2025: A moderate earthquake shook parts of southwestern Pakistan on Sunday afternoon, with tremors felt in and around the province of Balochistan.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the seismic activity was recorded at 12:56 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST) on May 12, 2025.
The PMD confirmed that the earthquake measured 4.9 on the Richter scale and struck at a depth of 21 kilometres below the Earth’s surface.

The quake’s epicentre was located approximately 125 kilometres southwest of Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan. The precise coordinates were recorded at 29.07°N latitude and 66.48°E longitude.
Officials from the PMD stated that the intensity of the quake was moderate and typical of the tectonic activity in the region, which lies along a known fault line.

No immediate reports of casualties or structural damage were received following the tremors, though local authorities said they were continuing to monitor the situation and assess remote areas for any delayed reports.
