Pakistan is set to introduce 5G services soon, as the government finalizes its 5G spectrum policy. The move is expected to improve telecom services and bring faster internet to millions of users across the country.

Minister for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima, said at the 26th South Asia Telecommunication Regulators Council meeting that over 600 MHz of spectrum will be auctioned. This will not only strengthen the current 3G and 4G networks but also enable the launch of 5G in Pakistan.

She added that the government has approved a framework for telecom infrastructure sharing and finalized satellite communication rules, paving the way for satellite-based internet access in remote areas.

Highlighting the government’s push for digital inclusion, Fatima mentioned the “Smartphones for All” policy, which aims to make mobile devices affordable and accessible to everyone.

Pakistan’s telecom sector has seen rapid growth, with mobile subscribers reaching 200 million and 150 million mobile broadband users. Data usage has jumped 70% in the last five years, while telecom revenues grew 17% year-on-year.
