Salaried individuals across Pakistan are struggling to submit their annual income tax returns for the Tax Year 2025 due to a major technical glitch in the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) IRIS portal.
Tax experts and lawyers report that while filing, an error message appears stating: “Please enter correct receipt value”, which cannot be corrected despite multiple attempts, according to a report by Business Recorder.
The portal error has left taxpayers confused, and even FBR’s helpline has failed to provide a solution. Tax professionals are now calling for an immediate extension of the filing deadline for salaried individuals affected by this technical problem.
In response, a formal complaint has been submitted to the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) by tax lawyer Khurram Shahzad under Section 10 of the Federal Tax Ombudsman Ordinance, 2000. The complaint highlights serious maladministration and professional inefficiency by the FBR’s IT Wing.
With the deadline of September 30, 2025 approaching, there is a real risk that affected taxpayers could be wrongly marked inactive under the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. Experts warn that this systemic failure could cause hardship to taxpayers and lead to revenue losses for the government.

Tax professionals have urged the FTO to recognize these acts as maladministration, direct the FBR to fix the portal error, and ensure that salaried individuals can file their returns without obstacles. They also recommend extending the filing deadline and restructuring the FBR IT Wing with qualified experts to prevent such issues in the future.
