Punjab province has witnessed massive destabilization in the education sector with devastating floods compelling closure of almost 3,000 schools. Chairman of the Task Force on Education, Muzzammil Mahmood, said that over 1,400 schools attended by boys and 1,500 schools attended by girls were closed down because of the heavy flooding in various districts.

It has been reported that 1,150 schools were totally flooded, more than 850 were partially damaged and 45 school buildings fell down. Among those that have been listed as the worst hit areas include Gujrat, Hafizabad, Muzaffargarh, Narowal and Multan.

The School Secretary of Punjab, Khalid Nazir, has declared that the 40 billion rupees of their earlier allotted fund on the education development has been channeled towards repairing of flood-damaged schools. Governments have committed to rapid recovery to reduce long term inconvenience to the students.

Since education is already being stressed, the Punjab government has focused on the rebuilding process in order to restore normal schooling as soon as it can.
