Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad, has announced a vacancy for the position of Research Assistant under an internal funded project titled “Academic Integrity in Using Artificial Intelligence Generative Tools for Content Development for Distance Learning.” The role is based in the Department of Science Education, Faculty of Education.
According to the official notice, the post requires candidates to be enrolled in MPhil/PhD (Education) programs or have completed MPhil from a public sector university. Applicants must also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with strong computer proficiency and report-writing expertise.
Despite such high academic and professional requirements, the university is offering only Rs. 15,000 per month for a three-month contractual appointment.
This announcement has raised eyebrows, as the remuneration being offered is unusually low compared to the qualifications expected. Hiring highly educated candidates for such a modest salary highlights the growing concerns over the undervaluation of research roles in Pakistan’s higher education sector.

Candidates interested are instructed to send their applications, CVs, and scanned documents to [email protected] by October 02, 2025. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for a test/interview, and no TA/DA will be provided.

The move has sparked debate about whether public sector universities are doing enough to retain and support young researchers, especially when research is critical for innovation, policy, and education in Pakistan.
