Torrential rains in Faisalabad broke a 30-year record on Monday as 184 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in Ghulam Muhammad Abad which prompted the district administration and WASA to launch an extensive water drainage operation across the city.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Captain (Retired) Nadeem Nasir personally visited various localities to monitor relief measures while Managing Director (MD) Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) Sohail Qadir Cheema also accompanied him.
Spokesman of local administration said that Ghulam Muhammad Abad received the highest rainfall at 184 mm followed by 175 mm in Allama Iqbal Colony, 170 mm in Gulistan Colony, 167 mm along Jail Road and adjoining areas while Dogar Basti and Madina Town each recorded 154 mm rain.

He said that recent rains broke 30-year record with 184 mm downpour in Faisalabad city. Hence, soon after the downpour began, WASA activated heavy machinery at all ponding points to ensure water discharge, he added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner inspected WASA disposal station at Sargodha Road and later reviewed the situation in Civil Lines, Madina Town, Samanabad, Jhang Road and other affected areas.
He also went deep into residential streets and neighborhoods to personally check the progress of drainage operations.
Standing on-site, he directly supervised the removal of water and directed WASA teams to deploy machinery without delay. Deputy Commissioner warned that no negligence in drainage work would be tolerated.
He directed that major roads, intersections and residential colonies must be cleared on priority to provide relief to citizens. Relief for residents is top priority of the administration after record-breaking downpour, he added.
MD WASA Sohail Qadir Cheema said that entire field staff had been placed on high alert and they are working at full capacity to drain out accumulated rainwater.
Drainage operations were in full swing on all key thoroughfares till evening and WASA disposal stations were running at full capacity. WASA teams would remain in the field until complete drainage is ensured, he added.
