The plan to collect fares via cards in electric buses in Lahore has stalled due to technical issues and lack of funds.

According to sources, the dream of introducing a Smart Fare Collection System in smart buses could not be realized. For passenger convenience, the facility of paying fares through a card was announced, where passengers could swipe their card on a digital screen inside the bus. However, since the system is not functional, passengers are still forced to pay in cash.

Due to the non-functionality of the system, the Punjab Transport Company has also suspended the issuance of cards. Even after seven months, the cards have not been distributed. The development of the software and payment system through cards was the responsibility of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).
