Karachi schools reopen today after being closed for several days due to heavy rains and urban flooding. The announcement was made by All Private Schools Management Association (APSMA) Chairman Syed Tariq Shah.

Shah said that to recover the academic loss, Saturdays will now be regular teaching days in all private schools across the city. “The step is necessary to cover the time students lost because of frequent weather-related closures,” he explained.

The move comes as Karachi continues to face disruption caused by days of stormy weather. Intermittent showers have left low-lying areas under water while rising levels in Malir and Lyari rivers have added to the difficulties.

Major roads and neighborhoods also remain affected, making daily life tough for citizens. The Sindh government earlier ordered the closure of schools and colleges on Wednesday following a weather alert from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), which predicted more rain and strong winds.

Authorities say the decision to reopen schools while adding Saturday classes aims to minimize the academic setback for students already struggling with an uneven schedule this monsoon season.
