Nanbais in Rawalpindi and Islamabad have demanded the government either supply wheat flour at subsidized rates or allow an increase in Roti and Naan prices.
The Rawalpindi Nanbai Association warned of a strike within 10 days if flour prices were not stabilized, while Islamabad’s association said it would approach the High Court against the “indifferent” attitude of the administration.
At a press conference, Rawalpindi association president Shahjahan Abbasi said flour prices had surged 70% in two weeks, with an 80kg sack rising from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 9,000. He alleged “mill and dealer mafias” were profiteering and warned of a nationwide strike if action was not taken.

Abbasi demanded Roti be fixed at Rs. 25, arguing current official rates were unsustainable. He also urged authorities to stop harassing tandoor owners with fines and raids.
Currently, Roti is sold at Rs. 15 and Naan at Rs. 25 in Rawalpindi, while in Islamabad they are priced at Rs. 18 and Rs. 20 respectively.
