The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to set up a medical tourism help desk at the Torkham border to facilitate patients arriving from Afghanistan and Central Asian countries, the provincial tourism department announced.

A plan is also being finalized to provide on-arrival visas to foreign patients for quick access to healthcare facilities.

According to the department, a large number of patients from Afghanistan and Central Asia visit KP each year for treatment. The provincial government aims to strengthen the economy by promoting medical tourism while ensuring international-standard healthcare facilities for foreign patients.

Officials emphasized that KP offers immense opportunities in medical tourism, and the government is committed to capitalizing on them. To put Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s tourism vision into action, the province has decided to take concrete and revolutionary steps to boost medical tourism.

In this regard, a joint meeting of the Department of Tourism & Culture, Archaeology & Museums, and the Health Department was held at the tourism department’s conference room. The session was chaired by Secretary Health Shahidullah Khan and Secretary Culture, Tourism, Archaeology & Museums Dr. Abdul Samad.

Participants highlighted that thousands of patients from the United States, Europe, Central Asia, and particularly Afghanistan, visit KP annually for medical treatment, underscoring the province’s growing role as a hub for healthcare tourism.
