The Punjab government is considering shutting down more than 5,000 afternoon schools after reports of fake enrolments and bogus teacher appointments surfaced.
Officials have also confirmed that funding for these afternoon schools has been reduced for the current financial year.
Across the province, there are around 7,500 afternoon schools, but only 1,500 are expected to continue operations.

These schools will be retained in just 14 districts, while Lahore will keep only 60 double-shift schools active.
