The Karachi–Lahore Motorway (KLM) is set to move a step closer to completion as the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) referred a major revised plan to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further review and approval. The project aims to enhance connectivity between Karachi and Lahore, making it a crucial backbone of Pakistan’s transportation infrastructure.

The comprehensive project focuses on key aspects such as land acquisition, compensation for affected property owners, and the relocation of utilities across the 959-kilometer motorway corridor.

With the revised estimated cost now at Rs. 68.74 billion, the Karachi–Lahore Motorway, excluding the already completed 136 km section of M-9 and 57 km of M-4, is recognized as one of the nation’s most significant infrastructure developments.

During the CDWP session, chaired by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, several other vital projects were also reviewed and either approved or forwarded to ECNEC for further approval.

Notable projects include the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research in Lahore worth Rs. 74.9 billion, the Harpo Hydropower Project (34.5MW) at Rs. 34.34 billion, and an eight-lane overhead bridge at Imamia Colony Railway Crossing in Shahdara, estimated at Rs. 4.67 billion.
