Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday met with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and World Bank President Ajay Banga on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly session in New York, where discussions centered on Pakistan’s economic reforms and future collaboration.

In his meeting with Georgieva, Shehbaz praised the IMF’s longstanding support, particularly under her leadership, citing timely assistance through the $3 billion Stand-By Arrangement in FY2024, the $7 billion Extended Fund Facility, and the $1.4 billion Resilience and Sustainability Facility.

He noted that Pakistan’s economy is showing early signs of stabilization due to structural reforms and stressed that the impact of recent floods should be considered in upcoming IMF reviews.

Georgieva expressed sympathy for flood-affected communities and commended Pakistan’s commitment to sound macroeconomic policies, assuring continued IMF support for sustainable growth.

Separately, the premier met with World Bank President Ajay Banga, who reaffirmed the Bank’s readiness to back Pakistan’s reform agenda and economic recovery.
