Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday inaugurated the first-ever electro bus service in Dera Ghazi Khan, calling it a historic step toward transforming public transport in South Punjab.

At the ceremony, she announced that electric buses will also be introduced in Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh and Taunsa, ensuring modern transport facilities across the region. In the first phase, 101 electro buses have been allocated for the Dera Ghazi Khan division.

The Chief Minister also revealed that the South Punjab Secretariat would convene monthly in Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan to directly address people’s grievances. Beginning her address in Saraiki, she remarked, “It is a matter of joy for me to be among you. Where there is the seat of Lahore, there will also be the seats of Bahawalpur, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan.”

Maryam Nawaz described the bus project as a gift for ordinary citizens, students, women and especially persons with disabilities. She personally instructed a bus conductor to show special care for differently-abled passengers and awarded him a prize.

She herself traveled on the newly launched bus from Jail Road Bus Stop to the ceremony venue.
Highlighting her development agenda, the Chief Minister pledged billions of rupees for South Punjab and stressed that resources would be spent without political bias.
