The traffic police have announced a new set of mandatory safety rules for motorcyclists, aiming to reduce accidents and protect lives on the roads. Officials emphasized that these measures are not meant to trouble the public but to ensure their own safety, as violations of basic traffic laws often result in tragic accidents.
According to the directive, all motorcyclists must fulfill the following requirements within one week:
- Driving License – Riders must have a valid license. In case of an accident without a license, strict legal action can be taken.
- Helmet Use – Wearing a helmet is mandatory for riders and passengers. Every year, thousands of lives are lost due to head injuries caused by riding without helmets.
- Proper Parking – Parking on main roads is strictly prohibited as it blocks traffic and emergency vehicles. Motorcycles must be parked in a single lane.
- Number Plates – Every motorcycle must have a clear and accurate number plate on both the front and back to prevent crimes such as theft and snatching.
- Lights and Indicators – Both front and rear lights, as well as indicators, must be installed and functional to avoid collisions, especially at night.
- Side Mirrors and Chain Covers – Side mirrors and chain covers must be properly attached. Their absence often leads to serious accidents, particularly for women whose clothing may get stuck in the chain.
