The Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) IRIS portal remained down on Monday, leaving taxpayers and practitioners unable to file income tax returns for Tax Year 2025, according to the Lahore Tax Bar Association (LTBA).

In an urgent letter to the finance minister, the LTBA said the removal of the “payment details tab” from the IRIS portal was an unlawful and unjustified move that further complicated the filing process. The association urged authorities to extend the return filing deadline in light of the technical issues.

Following a hearing at the Federal Tax Ombudsman office, tax lawyer Waheed Shahzad Butt also pressed for an extension, citing both technical and legal hurdles.

Meanwhile, the Professional Accountants Forum (PAFO) President Muhammad Iqbal submitted a formal request to the finance minister, highlighting that under Section 118 of the Income Tax Ordinance, individuals, AOPs, and companies are required to file returns for TY2025 by September 30, 2025.

FBR’s statement

It is pertinent to mention here that in a statement on Monday, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) made it clear that the deadline for filing tax returns won’t be extended and also rebutted claims the IRIS portal is down.
