The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has provisionally collected Rs. 2,885 billion during the first quarter of FY2025-26 (July–September), falling short of its target of Rs. 3,083 billion by Rs. 198 billion.
Provisional revenue figures, compiled on Tuesday, show that FBR collected Rs. 1,230 billion in September 2025, against a monthly target of Rs. 1,368 billion, resulting in a shortfall of Rs. 138 billion.
Last on Tuesday, the FBR also extended the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns for Tax Year 2025. FBR’s move came as a surprise as the tax authority had said merely hours ago that there would be no extension in the deadline.
However, FBR said in a notification on Tuesday night that the deadline has been extended in view of the requests from various trade bodies, taxpayers and tax bar associations.
FBR’s tax shortfall is likely to remain a key point in the review talks currently underway with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
