The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has approved $475 million in financing for the M-6 Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway, a key project aimed at improving Pakistan’s transport infrastructure and connecting the country’s north-south corridor.

The funding approval was granted by the IsDB Board of Executive Directors at its headquarters in Jeddah on Monday.

The M-6 motorway, stretching 306 kilometers is the final missing link in the route connecting Karachi to Peshawar. The six-lane motorway will be built for speeds up to 120 km/h and will include 89 bridges, 15 interchanges and 243 underpasses.

It forms part of the Eastern Alignment of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), enhancing trade and travel efficiency across the region.

Construction is expected to begin in April next year, with the Sindh government already initiating land acquisition. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has instructed officials to ensure the transfer of both state and private land needed for the project. Past delays were mainly due to legal disputes over land.

In addition to the M-6, the M-10 motorway (Karachi Northern Bypass) is being extended to connect directly with the M-6 at Jamshoro. This expansion aims to create a high-capacity corridor for both commercial and passenger traffic from Karachi Port.
