The Punjab government is moving forward with its flagship electric bus initiative, allocating more than 400 buses to 16 cities across the province in the next phases of the project.
According to official sources, 200 electric buses will be introduced under the second phase of the scheme in the following nine cities: Gujjar Khan, Jhelum, Chakwal, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang and Rajanpur.
In addition, around 20 buses are being allocated to districts in the Gujranwala and Gujrat regions. The distribution plan includes:
• Gujranwala – 88 buses
• Sialkot – 45 buses
• Gujrat – 28 buses
• Hafizabad – 16 buses
• Mandi Bahauddin – 12 buses
• Narowal – 7 buses
• Wazirabad – 7 buses
Officials confirmed that Rs. 7.5 billion will be spent on establishing charging stations, while Rs. 8.5 billion will go towards purchasing the buses.
The initiative follows the successful launch of the first phase, where electric buses began operating between Gujranwala and Wazirabad on September 17.
