The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced that construction work on the long-awaited Shaheen Chowk underpass project is set to begin soon.
According to CDA officials, the contract for the project has already been awarded, and its formal inauguration is expected shortly. Under the plan, an underpass will be built at Khyaban-i-Iqbal, commonly known as Margalla Road, at its junction with 9th Avenue.
The area around Shaheen Chowk is home to several major institutions, including Bahria University, Air University and the National Defense University. The Pakistan Air Force Hospital is also located nearby, while Islamabad’s largest recreational space, Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9 Park), lies right next to the underpass site.

Once completed, traffic on Khyaban-i-Iqbal will pass through the underpass, while vehicles on 9th Avenue will move along the top slabs. The project aims to ease heavy traffic congestion in the area, which currently experiences severe bottlenecks during rush hours because of nearby government offices and educational institutions.
