The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has identified two major road projects as part of its upcoming development plans, officials said on Friday.

According to CDA officials, the projects include the overhauling of the Expressway’s service road and the construction of a new road linking Margalla Road to the boundary limit of Islamabad, where it will connect with a proposed road from Rawalpindi.

The Expressway’s service road, in particular, has been in a deteriorated condition for years, marked by potholes and surface damage from Sohan to Koral. The poor road conditions have caused persistent inconvenience for daily commuters and residents of surrounding areas.

There are dozens of heavily populated housing societies located along the Expressway’s service road, including Ghauri Town, Airport Housing Society, Fazaia Colony, Farooq-e-Azam Colony, Iqbal Town, Raja Town, Al Noor Colony, Bilal Town and Gulzar-e-Quaid.

Once the project is completed, it is expected to bring major relief to residents, as the Expressway often experiences severe traffic congestion. A well-maintained service road would help reduce pressure on the main highway and ensure smoother traffic flow.
