Meta Platforms has launched an optional Meta AI camera roll feature in the U.S. and Canada that scans users’ phone photos to recommend posts on Facebook, even for images never uploaded.
The tool, which users must opt into, automatically uploads media to Meta’s cloud. Its AI then suggests edits, collages, or highlights that can be saved or shared. Meta clarified that uploaded content will not train AI models unless users edit or publish the suggestions.
This comes amid privacy concerns over unpublished data. Meta says the feature stores photos for up to 30 days but won’t use them for ads.

The rollout is part of Meta’s push to integrate AI into its apps, competing with OpenAI and Google. The Meta AI camera roll feature will expand to more users in the coming months.
