The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) blocked more than 1.41 million social media accounts and websites by September this year following reports from law enforcement agencies, official data shows.

According to PTA statistics, the highest number of complaints were received against Facebook, where the authority requested the blocking of 212,345 accounts and pages. Of these, 183,497 were taken down, while Facebook declined to act on 13,959, and 14,889 remain under review.

On X (formerly Twitter), 105,545 complaints were lodged. PTA reported that 66,623 accounts were blocked, 5,871 requests were declined, and 28,051 are still being reviewed.

YouTube received 72,169 complaints, leading to the removal of 64,639 accounts, while 3,182 requests were rejected and 4,348 are pending.

On Instagram, 41,184 complaints resulted in 36,723 accounts being blocked, with 1,461 declined and 3,000 under review.

TikTok faced 169,445 complaints, of which 161,147 accounts were blocked, 6,897 were not acted upon, and 1,401 remain under scrutiny.

On SnackVideo, 7,225 accounts were blocked out of 8,329 complaints, with 109 rejected and 995 still under review. Similarly, Bigo/Likee saw 6,539 accounts blocked from 6,730 complaints, while 191 are pending.

Dailymotion received 600 complaints, resulting in 562 blocks, 11 rejections, and 27 cases still being processed.

Meanwhile, other social media platforms accounted for 897,500 complaints, leading to 890,638 accounts and pages being blocked, 302 declined, and 6,560 still under examination.
