Karachi Safe City Project has entered its next stage as Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah approved Phase II of the initiative, urging authorities to speed up work and ensure timely completion.
The move aims to enhance public safety, improve crime monitoring, and modernize city surveillance.
For Phase II, surveillance coverage will expand to additional high-risk, commercial and residential areas, including DHA hotspots in District South, District East and Malir. Plans include deploying 4,750 cameras, upgrading 1,750 existing ones and installing 3,000 new cameras, including Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) cameras to support e-Challan (TRACS).
The S4 system will also be merged with the Safe City platform while the Command & Control Centre at CPO Karachi will be upgraded to handle up to 6,000 cameras. Two Regional Command Centres will be established at the DIGP South office and Civic Centre to cover South and East districts.
