The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important public advisory warning citizens about the growing threat of deepfake videos, digitally altered content designed to deceive and manipulate public opinion.

The authority highlighted that in the digital era, seeing is no longer believing, as deepfakes pose a serious risk to truth, privacy and public trust.

According to PTA, deepfakes can often be identified through unnatural facial movements, unreal blinking patterns, and inconsistent lighting or shadows on a person’s face. The advisory also suggests listening carefully for distorted audio, abrupt tone changes or unnatural speech patterns, which are common signs of manipulation.

PTA has further recommended using metadata checks and verified digital tools like Microsoft’s Video Authenticator and Deepware Scanner to confirm the authenticity of suspicious videos or images.
