The Sindh government has announced the launch of a new electric bus route connecting Gulshan-e-Maymar to Tower in Karachi, as part of its ongoing efforts to expand public transport facilities across the province.

The new route will operate under the People’s Bus Service and is expected to improve connectivity between northern Karachi neighborhoods and the city center.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting of the Transport Department held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Managing Director Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, and other senior officials were also present.

In addition to the new EV route, the province announced that the People’s Bus Service will be expanded to three more districts, with 20 new buses set to operate in Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Naushahro Feroze.

Furthermore, Sindh will introduce scooter riding training programs for women and female students in Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, following the model already underway in Karachi. The program will be conducted in partnership with a private company.

Memon said these measures are part of the government’s commitment to empowering women and enhancing mobility across urban centers. “These initiatives aim to make daily travel easier, especially for working women and students,” he stated.
