A rare caracal in Pakistan has been spotted again after several years, bringing fresh hope for the survival of this endangered wild cat.
The sighting was recorded through a camera trap installed in Kirthar National Park by the Indus Fishing Cat Project (IFCP) team.
The caracal, known for its pointed black ears and graceful movement, is among the most threatened species in Pakistan. Wildlife officials said its population has sharply declined because of habitat loss, hunting, and shrinking prey.
According to experts, the latest sighting shows that the caracal in Pakistan still survives in some parts of Sindh and Balochistan, but the numbers remain dangerously low. Conservationists have called for stronger protection under the Sindh Wildlife Act and better monitoring of its natural habitat.

Wildlife specialists say saving the caracal is vital for maintaining the ecosystem, as the animal helps control smaller species and supports biodiversity.
