Police in Karachi have recovered a newborn baby allegedly sold in Punjab and reunited him with his parents.
The shocking case has led to the sealing of a private clinic in Memon Goth as police continue their search for the main suspects involved in the illegal sale.
According to police, the newborn was taken from Zehra Clinic shortly after birth. SSP Malir Abdul Khaliq Pirzada said a clinic worker named Shama Baloch and a woman identified as Dr Zahra were behind the baby’s abduction and sale.
He confirmed that the suspects promised to help a poor family with medical bills but later sold the baby to a childless couple in Punjab. “The suspects will be arrested soon and brought before the law,” SSP Pirzada added.
Police said the child’s father, Sarang, lodged a complaint after losing contact with the clinic. His wife, Shehnaz, was advised to deliver through surgery but could not afford it. Shama allegedly offered to cover the costs, claiming she worked for an NGO helping poor families. After delivery, she took the baby away, telling the mother it was for “support.”

Investigations later revealed that the baby had been sold instead of being handed to any welfare group. Police said pressure on the suspects led to the child’s recovery and safe return from Punjab.
The case has been registered under sections related to kidnapping and human trafficking. Authorities have sealed Zehra Clinic and are reviewing whether similar incidents took place there.
