The University of Health Sciences Lahore has announced a major change in its examination system. All written exams for undergraduate and postgraduate programs will shift completely to multiple choice questions from 2026. This means that short essay questions will no longer be part of theory exams. The decision was made to create a system that is clearer fairer and easier to evaluate. With this change students will be required to secure at least sixty five percent marks separately in theory and practical exams. Practical assessments will be conducted through structured formats such as OSPE and OSCE. This move is meant to improve the quality of assessment and align medical education with modern standards.

This decision will bring a noticeable shift in how students prepare for exams. Instead of focusing on long descriptive answers students will now pay more attention to clarity of concepts and accurate recall. It will also encourage more practice of standardized question banks and concept based learning. For teachers the focus will now be on developing high quality MCQs that test real understanding instead of memorization. This step is expected to reduce unfair marking practices and bring uniformity to evaluation across all institutes affiliated with UHS.
