The International Cricket Council has handed a two match ban to Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf following his conduct during the Asia Cup. The ban comes after an official hearing into gestures made on the field that were deemed to have brought the game into disrepute. Alongside the suspension the player was also fined and given demerit points for his actions.
What Led to the Suspension
During Pakistan’s matches in the Asia Cup 2025 especially the clash against India Haris Rauf made a gesture towards the opposition fans that sparked controversy. For one incident he was fined 30 percent of his match fee and received two demerit points. He repeated a similar action later which pushed his total demerit points within a 24 month period to four. According to ICC rules accumulating four demerit points triggers an automatic two match ban. The matches he now misses include the early One Day Internationals against South Africa national cricket team scheduled later this month.

Losing one of its frontline pacers at the start of a key series poses a tactical challenge for Pakistan. The team will need to adjust its bowling plans and rely on other quicks to fill the gap. More broadly this ban sends a strong message that behaviour on the field matters and that players will be held accountable when actions cross the line. Discipline and conduct are smooth parts of team culture and international representation.
