The Punjab Assembly has proposed a major change to the CNIC system, approving a resolution to add citizens’ blood group information to their identity cards. The step aims to ensure quick medical assistance during emergencies and help save precious lives across the province.

The resolution, presented by MPA Ahmad Iqbal Chaudhry, received unanimous approval during the 34th session of the Punjab Assembly, chaired by Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan. The session began after a brief delay and opened with prayers for the martyrs of Pakistan’s armed forces.

During the proceedings, Law Minister Rana Muhammad Iqbal introduced two amendment bills, the Punjab Emergency Service (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Forest (Amendment) Bill 2025 which were sent to committees for review.

Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir assured improvements in medicine supply, increased funding, and new recruitment procedures in the health sector.

Lawmakers also passed resolutions addressing smog control, seasonal diseases and praised the recent Saudi-Pakistan defense cooperation. Several private university bills were also approved before the session concluded.
