The Punjab government has decided to delay the launch of the Yellow Line public transport project to the next fiscal year. Initially planned for the current year, the project’s funds will now be redirected to support people affected by recent floods across the province.
According to official sources, over Rs30 billion had been allocated for the Yellow Line this year. However, the project will now begin in the 2026–27 financial year, with an estimated budget of Rs60 to Rs80 billion required for completion.
The Yellow Line is designed as an electric, automated rail transit system that will cover a 24-kilometer stretch along the canal from Thokar to Harbanspura. The system aims to improve public mobility and ease traffic congestion in Lahore’s urban areas.

Meanwhile, Chinese company CR Noreen has completed the first test run after exporting the initial set of automated rail transit equipment. The original completion target for the Yellow Line was December 2026, but the delay is expected to extend the timeline further.
