Islamabad, Aug 17: Early in June, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the Chairman of the CDA and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad, boldly said on X (previously Twitter) that a number of development projects would be finished by August 14. But this promise, like a lot of others before it, never came to pass. Residents were irritated as the deadline passed and other projects dragged on, making daily travels more difficult.
The widening and extension of the Islamabad Expressway from Koral to T-Chowk on GT Road had been expressly highlighted by Randhawa. He declared that by August 14th, the road, Soan Bridge, and Bhandar Bridge would all be completed. In spite of these promises, there is still a lot of work to be done, thus the reality is different. It is estimated by sources that the project will require an additional three months to finish.
The official deadline for the project is September 30th, however CDA Director of Public Relations Shahid Kiani made it clear that they are striving to finish it earlier. In addition, he reported that 98% of the road work had been finished and gave his word that the project will be finished by the deadline of September 30.
It is noteworthy that the deadline of September 30th was already extended and is not the original one. In September 2022, the CDA gave the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) a contract worth Rs. 10.9 billion to expand and renovate a seven-kilometer stretch of the highway in Rawat, from the PWD Interchange to GT Road. At first, it was anticipated that the project would be finished by March 20, 2024. “Story is carried from The Nation”
