Islamabad, Dec 30: Tetra Pak, a global leader in food processing and packaging solutions, has unveiled its first-ever Sustainability Report for Pakistan, highlighting its commitment to addressing critical environmental, social, and economic challenges in the country. The event was graced by Mr. Hammad Shameemi, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Climate Change & Environmental Coordination, as the Chief Guest.
Recognizing the pressing environmental challenges in Pakistan, including inadequate waste management, unclear policies, and resource scarcity, Tetra Pak reiterated its commitment to sustainability. These efforts include decarbonization initiatives at its production plant and innovative recycling programs.
Tetra Pak announced its goal to recycle 35,000 tons of used beverage cartons by 2025 through its partnership with Green Earth Recycling. These initiatives reflect the company’s integrated approach to sustainability and community engagement.
A major highlight of Tetra Pak’s efforts is the adoption of International Renewable Energy Certificates (iRECs), which have led to an 80% reduction in carbon emissions at its Lahore facility. Moreover, the introduction of OneStep UHT processing technology has enabled local dairy manufacturers to reduce water consumption by 30% and carbon emissions by 25%, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and sustainability.
