Islamabad, Jan 9: Karachi residents were taken aback as temperatures plummeted to 6.5°C late Tuesday night, marking an unexpected chill for the city. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that the average minimum temperature across Karachi stood at 8.1°C. Notably, specific areas recorded even lower temperatures:
- Jinnah Terminal: 6.5°C
- Gulistan-e-Jauhar: 6.7°C
- Mauripur: 8.5°C
- Sharea Faisal: 9°C
- Bin Qasim Town: 9.1°C
During the day, the city experienced a maximum temperature of 26.5°C, with relative humidity levels at 54% in the morning and 25% in the evening.
Forecast for Thursday
Looking ahead, the PMD forecasts that Karachi’s minimum temperature will range between 8°C and 10°C on Thursday, indicating a continuation of the cooler trend.
Sindh’s Cold Wave
The cold front has extended beyond Karachi, affecting other parts of Sindh:
- Mithi: 0°C
- Mohenjo Daro: 1.5°C
The PMD’s daily advisory predicts that cold to very cold and dry weather will persist across the province. Foggy conditions are also expected in the upper and central districts of Sindh during the night and early morning hours. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions against the cold, especially during early morning and late evening hours.
