Islamabad, Feb 3: The electric bus service in Islamabad is set to revolutionize public transport with 13 designated routes. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been instructed to deploy all 160 electric buses to enhance eco-friendly commuting in the city. While approximately 70 buses are already operational, efforts are underway to bring the entire fleet on the roads.
Expansion and Infrastructure Challenges
One of the key challenges faced in this initiative is charging infrastructure. Currently, there are 16 charging stations, which experts believe are insufficient for the full fleet. To address this, a new depot is under construction at Zero Point, promising additional charging facilities to support seamless operations.

Beyond environmental benefits, the initiative will also provide cost-effective transportation, reducing dependency on fossil fuels and lowering commuting expenses for residents. With improved infrastructure and expanded routes, Islamabad’s electric bus service is set to become a model for sustainable urban mobility in Pakistan.
