Islamabad, Feb 11: The Sindh government has announced plans to digitize the vehicle fitness certification process in an effort to curb corruption and enhance road safety. This decision was taken during a high-level meeting led by Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah, where officials deliberated on solutions to traffic congestion and accident prevention across the province.
Currently, the manual vehicle fitness certification system is plagued by inefficiencies, lack of transparency, and the notorious presence of middlemen, commonly known as the “agent mafia.” These intermediaries often manipulate the process, allowing unfit vehicles to obtain certification illegally. As a result, unsafe vehicles continue to operate on the roads, increasing the likelihood of accidents and endangering public safety.
To address these issues, the Chief Secretary has instructed the transport department to roll out a fully digital vehicle fitness certification system within the next three months. This initiative will introduce real-time data recording and verification, eliminating human interference and significantly reducing opportunities for corruption. By implementing a secure and tamper-proof digital platform, the government aims to ensure that only roadworthy vehicles receive certification, making the process more transparent and accountable.
