Islamabad, Feb 12: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to fully harness the peaceful applications of nuclear technology. This collaboration aims to ensure ongoing benefits for Pakistan’s population as well as for the global community.
The statement came during a meeting at the Prime Minister House, where Rafael Mariano Grossi, the Director General of the IAEA, paid a courtesy visit. The discussions centered around the peaceful uses of nuclear technology in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, food preservation, water management, and industry. Notably, both leaders highlighted the role of nuclear technology in cancer diagnostics and treatment, areas where Pakistan has seen substantial advancements with the IAEA’s support.

PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed appreciation for the IAEA’s efforts in promoting nuclear energy as a solution to climate change, reiterating Pakistan’s dedication to utilizing nuclear technology for sustainable development. He also emphasized that Pakistan, as one of the IAEA’s founding members, has fostered a productive and beneficial partnership with the organization for decades.
Under this collaboration, Pakistan has made significant strides in nuclear power generation, industrial growth, and advancements in healthcare and agriculture, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development. In response, DG IAEA Grossi praised Pakistan’s longstanding and constructive engagement with the agency and assured continued cooperation to further strengthen the partnership.
