Islamabad, Feb 28: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with First Deputy Minister for Energy of Russia, Pavel Sorokin, on Friday to discuss bilateral relations and energy cooperation. The meeting underscored Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic, trade, and investment ties with Russia.

The prime minister highlighted his productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, emphasizing the potential for enhanced collaboration in the energy sector and beyond. He also reiterated an invitation for President Putin to visit Pakistan, reaffirming Pakistan’s desire to deepen engagement with Russia.

The Russian Deputy Energy Minister expressed Russia’s willingness to expand energy cooperation with Pakistan and thanked the Pakistani government for its hospitality.

The high-level meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Petroleum Minister Musadiq Malik, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, Power Minister Awais Ahmed Leghari, and Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik. Also present were Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatimi, Governor State Bank Jamil Ahmed, and other senior officials.

With Pakistan and Russia exploring deeper energy partnerships, the meeting marked a significant step towards enhancing bilateral economic ties and leveraging mutual opportunities in the evolving global energy landscape.
