Islamabad, 12 Apr, 2025: In a landmark initiative directed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a transformative Skills Training Program for Transgender individuals has been officially introduced.
This forward-thinking project is designed to uplift the transgender community by equipping them with professional skills, offering them a path to financial self-reliance and social dignity.
The Skills Training Program for Transgender aims to eliminate the need for begging by replacing it with real, sustainable career opportunities.

In its initial rollout, 1,600 members of the transgender community will receive hands-on training through the Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF) and Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA).
The courses are tailored to today’s market demands, with a special focus on digital education specifically freelancing and information technology enabling participants to earn a living independently and even remotely.
The program’s diverse curriculum includes technical and vocational fields such as healthcare support, tailoring and dress designing, solar panel installation, electrical maintenance, culinary arts, beauty and wellness services, among others.
These skillsets are selected to cater to a wide range of interests while ensuring long-term employability.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep concern over the societal neglect and harsh discrimination faced by the transgender population.
“It is disheartening to witness how society’s prejudice leaves transgender individuals with little choice but to resort to begging. This initiative is a step toward restoring their self-worth and unlocking their hidden potential,” she remarked.
She further highlighted that the provincial government is committed to building a future where every individual, regardless of gender identity, can live with honor and opportunity.
“These groundbreaking training initiatives will not just offer skills they will rewrite destinies,” she added.
This program also aims to spark social inclusion by breaking stereotypes and showcasing the talents and capabilities of transgender individuals.
