Islamabad, 15 Apr, 2025: Heat wave in Pakistan is rapidly becoming a significant public safety concern, as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) anticipates an intense surge in temperatures starting mid-April and continuing through June.
In collaboration with Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs), NDMA is actively working to notify healthcare departments and educational institutions to prepare for this climatic challenge.
In a recent interview with a private news outlet, NDMA’s GM Technical, Syed Muhammad Tayyab Shah, highlighted that this year’s heat wave in Pakistan is projected to be harsher than previous years.

With minimal rainfall and dry weather patterns contributing to rising temperatures, citizens across the country must brace for prolonged periods of excessive heat.
Shah emphasized the critical need for proactive measures, particularly in schools and healthcare facilities. Teachers and administrative staff should receive training to handle heatstroke emergencies efficiently.
NDMA also recommends the immediate setup of specialized heatstroke response units in hospitals to manage heat-related cases with urgency and care.
The NDMA has issued clear preventive guidelines to help the public safeguard against the dangerous impacts of extreme heat. These include:
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
- Avoid Outdoor Exposure: Refrain from venturing out during peak sunlight hours (usually 11 AM to 4 PM).
- Dress Appropriately: Choose lightweight, breathable, and light-colored clothing to stay cool.
The NDMA also encouraged citizens to keep an eye on weather updates and official advisories through trusted media channels and digital platforms.
These steps can significantly reduce the risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration, and more serious conditions like heatstroke.
The Sindh Govt and other provincial authorities have been urged to coordinate closely with hospitals and schools to ensure adequate preparedness.
