Islamabad, 15 April 2025: Shoaib Akhtar has voiced strong support for the inclusion of a Rawalpindi-based team in PSL, proposing the name “Pindi Express” for the franchise.
Speaking on a PSL, Akhtar highlighted the long-standing cricket culture of the city and insisted that the time had come for it to gain official representation in the tournament.
Akhtar, often referred to as the world’s fastest bowler, suggested that the league’s planned expansion to eight teams next season presents the perfect opportunity to bring Rawalpindi into the fold.

The PSL’s Chief Operating Officer, Salman Naseer, recently confirmed that discussions are underway regarding the league’s expansion.
According to Akhtar, Rawalpindi’s contributions to Pakistan cricket have been immense, and a dedicated franchise would honour its legacy.
He pointed out that the city has produced several renowned players, including Mohammad Wasim and Haris Rauf, apart from himself.
He proposed “Pindi Express” as the franchise name — a nod to his own nickname from his playing days — and asked fans to rally behind the idea on social media.

In his view, the name would not only recognise his career but also reflect the city’s vibrant cricketing spirit.
Akhtar described Rawalpindi as a place brimming with natural talent, calling it the “city of princes.”
He added that the local cricket scene has consistently delivered top-level players capable of shining on the international stage.
Rawalpindi has also played a key role in recent PSL seasons. Known for its lively atmosphere and high-scoring matches, it has become a favourite venue for both players and fans alike.
Akhtar believes Rawalpindi’s cricket legacy and fan support make it ready for a PSL team — and “Pindi Express” could be the ideal name.
