ISLAMABAD, April 16: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has imposed a PKR 25 million fine on Nishat Hyundai Motors for misleading advertising during the launch of its Hyundai Tucson SUV in 2020.
Misleading Price Claims at Launch
Hyundai’s Tucson was introduced during a widely publicized Facebook Live event, with “introductory prices” of:
-
PKR 4,899,000 for the GLS/FWD
-
PKR 5,399,000 for the ULTIMATE/AWD
But according to CCP’s findings, these prices were only valid for less than 24 hours. The small-print disclaimer “for a limited time only” was barely legible, and after the very brief window closed, Hyundai hiked prices by PKR 200,000. All mentions of the original prices were then scrubbed from official platforms.

CCP: Clear Case of Bait Advertising
The CCP ruled that Hyundai’s launch strategy was a textbook case of bait advertising—where a company attracts buyers with a low price that is not reasonably available. The Commission found the offer to be unclear, unfair, and misleading, as customers were not informed in a transparent manner.
Higher Standards Abroad, Why Not in Pakistan?
In a firm statement, the CCP noted that Hyundai follows better consumer practices in other countries and that Pakistani consumers are entitled to the same clarity and respect.
“There must be parity in advertising ethics. Misleading the public won’t be tolerated,” the Commission said in its verdict.
Accountability for Brands
This fine sends a strong message to corporations operating in Pakistan: truthful advertising is not optional. Companies will be held responsible for deceptive tactics, especially when they exploit consumer trust.
